Newton, released on 22 September, is already getting an amazing response from critics and viewers. And if this is not enough, the black comedy movie has finally made its way to Oscars 2018. The story revolves around a government clerk (Rajkummar Rao) who is sent to conduct polls in Chattisgarh’s Naxalite-Maoist-dominated region.

Out of 26 movies, the movie was unanimously chosen by 14 jury members. Hansal Mehta, the director of Rajkummar’s Shahid said in a tweet that this movie is so far the best choice of the Federation.

The movie, directed by Amit V Masurkar, held its world premiere at North American premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, and 67th Berlin International Film Festival. At Hong Kong International Film Festival, Newton also grabbed the Jury Award for the Best Film category.

Rajkummar told that it’s about one-day journey and everything was supposed to be shot in natural light. If a scene displays the time of 8AM in the movie, then we actually gave that shot at 8AM. In case, that shot didn’t complete in that time frame, they had to wait for the next day until 8AM. There were no generators, no external lighting equipment used in the movie.

The actor further said, when he was going through the script, he completely loved it. Being a challenging and versatile actor, he was keen to do this role. He added that he never thinks of how the movie will do at the box office. It’s the script alone that makes or breaks the deal for him. Rest, he lets the audience decide about the movie.

Seems like the year 2017 is in favor of Rajkummar Rao! And definitely, with Newton entering the Oscars 2018, everybody’s expectations from the actor have gone high. But, does he really feel pressurized about it? Well, not really! Rajkummar said that he looks forward to doing his work and living in the moment. Our best wishes to the entire team of Newton and we hope that it adds another world-class award to its kitty.
