In an unexpected turn of events, Supreme Court found Sasikala guilty in the disproportionate assets case. The verdict comes as a knockout punch for Sasikala’s ambitions of becoming the Chief Minister.
Sasikala SC verdict automatically disqualifies her from becoming a legislator. She will serve four years of imprisonment as she had already served six years earlier. She will be debarred from contesting elections for six years after her release.
Sasikala will be out of the political scene for a total of 10 years. This leaves out any possibility of her directly holding office anytime soon. This may seem the end for her, but it is not. Before she is taken into custody, Sasikala has played a masterstroke.

After the Sasikala SC verdict, people expected OPS’ claim to be irrefutable, but that was not to be. After the verdict, Sasikala went back to a resort outside Chennai and came up with a new plan.
Sasikala sacked Panneerselvam and cancelled his primary membership of the AIADMK. Edappadi K Palaniswami was named the new AIADMK legislature party leader and parties CM candidate.
At the time of writing, Palaniswami was awaiting a meeting with the Tamil Nadu, Governor C Vidyasagar Rao. It is anticipated that in the meeting, he will stake claim to the Chief Minister’s post.
Meanwhile, OPS is trying to figure out a way to get back into the party. He said, “Let us stay united. Rivals are working to split the party.”
If Palaniswami is successful in becoming CM, Sasikala will be the indirect CM. She has outwitted OPS by removing him from the party. Although, it is worth noting that Sasikala would serve her sentence in Karnataka.
It is still unclear as how many MLAs have agreed to pledge support to him and whether he has the number required to become the next CM of Tamil Nadu.
