The Reason Behind Jersey No 18: Revealed By Mandhana

In the latest episode of Chahal TV, Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is witnessed talking to women’s team opener Smriti Mandhana, while the duo spoke about latter’s superlative form in the recent past. The extraordinary Mandhana as she represents our Nation also made her debut on Chahal TV. The  Indian women’s cricket team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana spoke about the ICC Women’s Player of the Year Award and sharing the jersey number with men’s team captain, Virat Kohli.

Smriti Mandhana is the world No. 1 batter in ODIs currently. On screen, she has been found to joke as she mentioned that she was inspired after watching Chahal bat during the fourth ODI of the recently-concluded five-match series in New Zealand. Mandhana was referring to Chahal’s 18-run knock during India’s fourth ODI at Hamilton against New Zealand. 

Mandhana has been in her best form and has been seen to strongly contribute to the Indian women’s’ cricket team. She has been giving excellent performance in India women cricket team’s ongoing tour of New Zealand. The left-handed opener had scored 195 runs, including a century, and helped India to a 2-1 win in the ODI series.

In recent past, Smriti has won the ICC’s Women Player of the year while Virat Kohli has won the same in the Men’s category. Coincidentally to the nation’s surprise both the players share the same jersey no. The no 18.

She revealed in the interview that this was actually a mere coincidence. She had no idea initially that she shares the same jersey No with Virat Kohli.She got to know about it only for the last two years of her career. She said initially she wanted the number 7 for her jersey as that was her roll number in school. Unfortunately, she did not get the number of her choice since it was not available. Hence, her next option was 18 because she was born on the 18th of July. Surprisingly enough she got that number for her jersey.

She expressed her emotions by stating that she was grown up seeing Jhulun Goswami receiving the award from Women’s category when she was a kid. She feels extremely lucky, happy and proud to have won the same award now.

The young talent also promises to take up more responsibilities in tight situations and would work for the best outcome and would serve the nation and help India be proud of its assets.
